Free Up Memory Guide

Your phone is damn slow, u can't run applications or games, every try ends with:

"Memory Full. Close some applications and try again."

Or similar error!? U don't know what to do!?

Well, you know, we have the solution for it and even better, we have different guides for each OS version. Learn how to free up memory on specified device...

As u might know, there are lot of s60 phones that came out since the first 7650, with three different Symbian OS versions: OS6, OS7, OS8, every release has some new functions and improvements and therefore we have different guides for each OS version.

BTW:
Symbian OS 9 is close but we don't accept OS9 phone before the end of 2005...

BEFORE

AFTER

Symbian phones with OS v8 (6630)

1.)

* we'll start with guru tip ;o)))

First of all, Switch off your phone.
Hold down Pencil key and boot up again, keep holding pencil key until your phone boots up completely.
After this action your phone will run in safe mode and bypass all autoexec applications..

2.)

Go to profiles menu and choose Offline profile...

3.)

Go to Theme menu...

4.)

and switch to default one

5.)

Run App manager

*read more about this application in our application guide, system tools section...

* u can do it in a similar way with system explorer, read more about this application in our application guide, system tools section...

6.)

Press right in the joystick to go to Running apps tab, and choose:

Options=>More=>Close all apps

7.)

If the last action didn't close all applications on list u need to kill them one by one, like on the image above,
Options/more/Kill application

*Don't kill "Phone" application, it is a system application, and "AppMan" of course

8.)

Now press right in the joystick again, Processes tab to see what processes are currently running...

For example, scroll down to Menu process...

9.)

Choose,
Options / More / Kill process / Select

Repeat this for all the other unnecessary processes like Autolock, ScreenSaver, BTServer, USBwatcher, FaxModem, 3rd party applications like SW_FSCaller, SW_SP_DAMEON, etc..

10.)

BUT BE VERY CAREFUL and Don't kill neither system processes, like on the image above, nor any other process u aren't quite sure what it's for!!
If u kill some important process your phone will restart immediately and u will have to repeat all guide from the first step again...

11.)

* guru tip No 2

Some system processes like Autolock or ScreenSaver will restart by theirselves after being killed, then u need to repeat kill actions up to three times to get rid of them

12.)

Now go back to first tab "Summary",
Choose Options / Compress memory / Select.. and exit from app manager

13.)

Hastalavista baby
If u do it right u can get more than 9MB of free ram, it is around 100% MB more than we had at the beginning

14.)

* guru tip No 3

As I already mentioned, be careful but don't be scary about, if u do something wrong, phone will restart by itself, otherwise u can restart the phone, after rebooting, all system processes that had been killed will be loaded from ROM and run again..

Symbian phones with OS v6(1)
(7650 / 3650 / N-Gage (QD) / SX1 / Sendo X)

If u have a 3650 u probably need to make these actions very often, with almost every better game.
Essentially there is two different ways to do it, use the one u prefer, both require the installation of some 3rd party application. I will start with Smart launcher trick because I prefer it.

+ Method I - Smart luncher/Charger trick...

them..

2.)

Install and open Smart Launcher....

3.)

Go to Settings and activate them (ON)
like on the Image above

4.)

  • Take the charger and plug it in your phone
  • Switch your phone off
  • Let it plugged for a short time,only until the battery indicators appear
  • Now just tap the Menu button quickly(but really quickly).
  • Menu should appear now and u have 3,5 MB of free RAM or even more up to cca 4,5 MB.

Hastalavista baby

5.)

This is possible because during charging,the phone loads some system process that support charging, that means the software is loaded even when the phone is off.
I don’t know how or way but some Smart Launcher process or tasks also running are waiting for SL shortcut and that shortcut is the Menu key.
So by pressing menu key you run menu but u don’t run all other system tasks and processes, which are usually loaded and corrupt your free RAM

*Guru tip No 2

Don’t unplug the charger,cause the phone will switch off and game will stop of course ;o))))

+ Method II - Flight mode / Psiloc system tools...

1.)

* Guru tip No 1

As u probably know, OS 6 phones can be put in Flight mode with a additional 3rd party application known as Psiloc System Tools.
Also "Flight profile" can be used when you are on a plane or in any other place where using mobile phones is restricted by law (such as hospitals etc). You can also take advantage of this mode to have the phone working as a PDA and not be disturbed by any phone calls, SMS messages etc. As some applications (like the Menu) are designed by Nokia to work only when the phone is enabled, System Tools contains its own applications selector.

2.)

Install and run Psiloc system tools....

3.)

Go right to the last tab Tools
Choose Options/Select..

4.)

When enabling the "Flight profile" you will be asked to remove your SIM card and reboot the phone.Pull out your SIM card and power the phone on again without the SIM

5.)

In flight mode you can bypass all auto startup applications and close down main system tasks and processes, what means that u can release up to 3,5 MB of free RAM! As some applications (like the Menu) are designed by Nokia to work only when the phone is enabled, System Tools contain its own applications selector.

Don’t be sad or disappointed,cause it is a huge number for a device such as 3650.

*Guru tip No 3

Keep in mind that u are offline and you can't make or receive phone calls whatever is the method u use.
