The innovation behind FromSMS goes well back in time.
“Precisely 10 years ago, my team at Wapit Ltd. launched Kannel, an open source SMS and WAP gateway. Back then, I wouldn’t have imagined how relevant a new approach to web/SMS interface would be a decade later”, says Jouko Vierumäki, CEO and founder of Fromdistance – and CTO of Wapit in 1999.
“Huge number of web applications can take the advantage of SMS interface. Fromdistance hasn’t used any marketing money to promote FromSMS – and still it has found its users from all over the world”, he continues.
“FromSMS service was inspired by our own needs. Having customers in many countries and end users all over the world, we often encountered issues with SMS roaming, character encoding and restrictions of socalled short numbers. As many web applications can benefit from SMS messaging interface, we decided to make FromSMS available for everybody”, says Jouko Vierumäki, CEO of Fromdistance.
